This event isn’t about speed or fitness—it’s about community, conversation, and connection. Walking side by side, sharing stories, or simply enjoying the peaceful silence of nature, we aim to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for everyone.
Throughout the 6-hour trip, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with like-minded people, enjoy nourishing food and drinks provided by the organiser, and take part in relaxed conversations that encourage openness and understanding. Whether you want to talk, listen, or just enjoy the fresh mountain air, this hike is for you.

Mourne Mountains Hiking Day Programme
Starting Point: Donard Car Park, Newcastle, Co. Down
Total Duration: 6 hours
09:00 – 09:15 | Meet & Welcome
• Meet at Donard Car Park, Newcastle.
• Introduction and briefing by the hiking guide: safety measures, route overview, and expected weather conditions.
• Distribution of snack packs (energy bar, fruit, water bottle) and any pre-ordered equipment.
09:15 – 09:45 | Warm-Up & Start Hike
• Gentle walk through Donard Park, following the Glen River Path.
• Light warm-up stretches led by the guide.
09:45 – 11:15 | Glen River Ascent
• Hike towards the Saddle between Slieve Donard and Slieve Commedagh.
• Scenic stops at the Glen River Waterfalls for photos and hydration breaks.
11:15 – 12:00 | Summit of Slieve Donard (850m)
• Reach the highest peak in Northern Ireland.
• Enjoy panoramic views over Newcastle, Dundrum Bay, and the Irish Sea.
• Refreshments served: hot drinks (tea/coffee) and light snacks.
12:00 – 13:00 | Descent to Brandy Pad
• Descend via the Brandy Pad trail, a historic smuggling route.
• Short talk from the guide about the history of the Mournes and its granite industry.
13:00 – 13:30 | Picnic Lunch
• Packed lunch provided by the organiser, including sandwiches, crisps, fruit, and bottled water.
• Rest stop with views of the Silent Valley and Ben Crom Reservoirs.
13:30 – 15:00 | Return to Newcastle
• Hike back through Donard Forest, with optional detour for scenic photography spots.
• Cool-down stretches and final group photo.
15:00 – 15:15 | End of Trip & Farewell
• Return to Donard Car Park, Newcastle.
